"Pietro said to me, 'Drink a glass of wine
and the spider will get drunk.' "
- Dario Pegoretti
2024 Obliteride: August 10
VISION
We're a team of bicyclists riding the annual Obliteride in support of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, since our 2016 founding as a "tiny yet mighty" team, we "Spiders" have raised a total of more than $200,000.
Our shared primary team motive is simply focused: to support Fred Hutch's world-class race to cure cancer faster through Obliteride awareness-building and fundraising (100% of the funds donated to Obliteride go directly to Fred Hutch research).

We've added "Ogriteride" to spice things up!

WHY THE SPIDER?
The concept of team Catch the Spider was hatched out of admiration for the legendary Italian bicycle frame builder Dario Pegoretti.
Dario was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2007, and waged his cancer battle while otherwise continuing to live according to his own terms.
One of Dario's bicycle frame paint designs — the inspiration for our team name and graphics — is called Catch the Spider. That title originated from a playful suggestion made to Dario by his assistant Pietro Pietricola as a tactic for how Dario might more effectively fight his cancer (aka "the spider"): "Drink a glass of wine and the spider will get drunk", thus making it easier to catch the spider.
